The Australian Retailers Associations warns that a miserable Xmas is on the way. For them, yes. People aren’t spending and why is this a surprise?
It shouldn’t be a surprise at all for the ARA who helped persuade the government to get rid of weekend penalty rates. “If Australians aren’t feeling wealthy they will spend less“. Doh. Doesn’t take rocket science to work that one out.
So I’m not spending anything this Xmas. I’ll make some little things as gifts for my friends and, as for the grandchildren, I’m not putting myself in hock for them this year. I’ll probably slip them a few dollars, I’ve been saving a bit from my pension since June. I can’t really afford it but as long as the bills are paid, I’ll be alright.
So, a few gifts I can make. Chutney, Jam and Sauce for friends.
