I hope I make it to 85 but even if I score any years past that, I’ll never be anything like Anne McCaffrey.
The world will miss her talents as a story-teller She had a great gift of pulling readers into her fantasy world, and brought so many of us to live among the dragons and the crystal.
Her first novel, Restoree was written in 1967 as a protest against the absurd and unrealistic portrayals of women in sci-fi novels in the 50s and early 60s. I was thrilled when I picked it up that year.
McCaffrey was more well known for the worlds of her imagination, and one of my alltime favourites is the series of The Ship Who Sang
Her fourteen novels about the The Dragonriders of Pern have earned their place as legendary works of fantasy.
You will be missed, Anne. Vale!
